"This is how they make hot days more pleasant for babies"
The weather forecast promises a high summer day. Temperatures beyond the 30 degree brand are expected. Parents of a summer baby now think about how their little sweetheart survives the heated days in summer without prejudice.
First of all, it should be said to all parents: a summer baby suffers significantly less from the heat than an adult! There is nothing to worry about. Nevertheless, there are of course a few things to consider when a baby experiences its first weeks in the world in summer.
Drinking is important in summer
If the temperatures climb steeply, then of course a baby also has more thirst than usual. If you breastfeed your little sunshine, you usually do not need to offer extra drinks. The so -called front milk is thinner and deletes the thirst very well. Your child will want to noticeably want to go to the chest more often to drink the thin milk. So put it on hot days more often than usual.
Drinking is important in summer
If the little treasure already gets complementary or drinks from the bottle, drinks, such as boiled water or the most unsweetened tea, are ideal. Sometimes you can also offer thin juice spritzer.
Make sure that you immediately dispose of the milk residues in summer and boil and clean the bottles accordingly. The high temperatures are an ideal breeding ground for germs.
What is usually very good for a summer baby is a fresh fruit porridge. If the little sunshine is a bit older, you are also welcome to try to offer a first water ice. Sometimes it may be that the appetite is not that big on particularly warm days. We adults are no different. It is particularly important that the summer baby drinks sufficiently, since it also sweats and thereby loses liquid.
The midday heat is taboo!
Around lunchtime, the summer heat usually reaches its climax. This is the time when you should best stay inside or definitely go to a cool and shady place. It is not only the enormous summer heat, but also the increased UV radiation that is difficult. It is therefore best to avoid being in the direct sun with the baby in summer. Instinctively even adults avoid the free at that time.
Mittag heat is taboo
Well protected outdoors: sunscreen, sun hat and Co.
In order to be able to enjoy the time under the open sky with the baby in summer, your small diaper carrier must be protected from the sun accordingly. In principle, a summer baby should only wear as much clothes as you do. An airy summer dress or light cotton shorts are enough for you? Then the little Fratz doesn't need much more. In extreme summer heat, a light, short -sleeved body is sufficient. The free skin areas must be protected with a sunscreen. Be sure to use the highest light protection factor for your child in summer.
In addition, babies in the summer heat should always wear a thin and light fabric hat. There are special summer hats that not only cover the head, but also protrude slightly over the delicate ears and also cover the neck with a thin fabric. Because the ears and neck are particularly at risk in the blazing sun. Even if you put on such a summer hat for your child, the skin must be protected with the sunscreen beforehand.
What to do with a sunburn?
Despite the greatest care and caution, it cannot always be avoided that a light sunburn forms. Natural yogurt or curd have proven themselves as therapy for redness of the skin. These products cool in a very natural way and are free of additives.
Baby in summer
If your child appears apathetic during the day, hand over and refuse all food, you should see a pediatrician as soon as possible. These can be the first warnings for a heat stroke. So avoid unnecessarily long stays in the extreme summer heat.
An infant and older babies should never stay in the direct sun for longer than 5 to 10 minutes at a time.
You can check whether it is too hot for your child or not. Feel the skin on the neck. This should be warm, but never wet or sweaty. However, if this is the case, then quickly cause a slight cooling.
Gentle cooling - but only with your feet in the cool water!
Whether mountain lake, outdoor pool or the sea. Waters magically attract in summer. Your offspring will certainly share the enthusiasm for the cool water. Keep in mind that even in midsummer a baby is not allowed in cold water. The water temperature must be around 33 degrees. Otherwise the small body cools down too quickly.
Only with the feet into the cold wet
Baby plan
Therefore, you should only have your child splashed off with your feet in the water if the temperature should be too cold. Alternatively, you can set up a tiny pool in the garden or even on the balcony. Such a water usually heats up the water within a few hours.
Baby plan
Moist Nuscheli
On the crawling ceiling or the game ceiling you can occasionally with a damp Nuscheli Dab on the legs and arms when the summer heat appears too strong. This also ensures a pleasant cooling.
Change to air -conditioned rooms
If you are traveling with the baby in summer and go out of the warm air into a cool café, then cover the small diaper carrier with one thin baby blanket to. A baby cannot keep the warmth so well and cools down quickly.
Tropical nights - that's how it works with sleeping in midsummer
In the bedroom, the fans run continuously at night. In midsummer, especially in the cities, the temperatures hardly drop below the 22 degrees. What seems a matter of course in adults is a taboo in the children's room. The little ones are extremely sensitive when it comes to drafts.
Please do not set fans in the baby bedroom!
If your little sunshine sleeps in your room, the fan must be switched off as soon as the diaper carrier goes to rest.
In summer, a baby doesn't really need much to sleep. If the nights are not too hot, you can confidently use a summer sleeping bag. However, if there is a threat of tropical nights, it is enough if you are only sufficient for your child to sleep thin cotton cloth put on. A Nuscheli is already sufficient for a newborn. Otherwise you are very welcome to use cloth diapers to cover the child a little.
So that it does not get too warm in the bedroom throughout the day, note the following things:
- Ventate the room vigorously in the early morning.
- Close windows, doors and curtains before the sun rises properly and creates new heat with all your strength.
- If it cannot be avoided that the room is heated because it is under a sloping roof, for example, then cool it down again with the fan before sleeping. Just hang up a damp cloth in front of the blower. So the air in the room also cools down a bit and they all find a relaxing sleep, despite midsummer temperatures.
