Making wind chimes

" Great craft ideas for chimes in the children's room "

The melodic sound of a wind chime has a relaxing and calming effect. We have been more than familiar with these soft and gentle sounds since we were children. Even the youngest of us are fascinated by a natural sound chime made up of various elements. So what could be more natural than to hang such a chime in the baby's room?

Rely on versatility and creativity

Your little sunshine will look at this special mobile with great attention and enjoy listening to the sounds. Even a gentle breeze is enough to make it sound. Of course, the wind chimes must be positioned in such a way that they are occasionally set in motion by a gentle breeze - near a window, for example. Making a wind chime is anything but complicated and you have the wonderful opportunity to create something unique for your child.

Make a wind chime yourself

First, let your mind wander and think about what a chime for a baby should have. First and foremost, it should not be too big and, if possible, produce gentle sounds. Therefore, a chime for a baby should be made from different materials than wind chimes that adults would hang on the patio. The materials used there are often metal and sheet metal. However, children would find this too loud.

When crafting, rely on natural elements and a selection of beautiful craft materialsthat give the whole thing a lovely touch.

You will need the following materials for our sound game for children:

  • 1 wooden ring (diameter approx. 10 cm)
  • 7 string
  • various motif beads
  • 3 little bells
  • various beads
  • 2 wooden rings
  • 3 small bamboo canes (length approx. 3-6cm)
  • 1 wooden drill

The first step: basic construction

Fädelschnur 1m-StückFirst, get all the necessary materials together. This will help you keep an overview and make the work easier. You will then need the wooden ring to start crafting. Drill a small hole all the way through in three places. Make sure that the holes are evenly spaced.

You can now wrap a string around this ring. However, keep the drill holes clear.

The second step: creativity

First put the ring to one side and now turn your attention to the individual strands. Start with one strand first. Place the elements from top to bottom. However, the bamboo canes should always be placed last.

Start with different beads, for example. Leave a good 10 cm free so that you can then attach the strings to the ring. The beads are simply fixed in place with the help of a knot. Continue until you have strung the desired number of beads. You can now place one of the bells underneath. At the end of the strand, select one of the three available bamboo sticks. If these do not yet have a hole through which you can thread the string, you will need to do this with the wood drill.

In addition to the motif beads and bells, you can also use wooden rings. The more different the individual materials are, the more versatile the wind chime will be. In any case, vary the order. Remember, however, that bamboo canes belong at the end of the strings. If possible, try to place the elements in such a way that each string has approximately the same weight, despite the variety.

The third step: tying together

Now attach each of the three individual cords to one of the previously drilled holes in the wooden ring. Secure them with a knot. You can also use craft glue.

The fourth step: Hang up the chime

You can use string again to hang up your creation. Knot them in three places on the wooden ring. Now check the balance of the individual elements.

If the wind chime leans too far to one side, you may need to add more materials or modify them slightly.

Before you do this, however, you need to find the right place to attach the wind chime for children. To do this, it is best to hang the wind chime for your baby near a window so that it is caressed by gentle breezes and the wonderful sounds can be heard.

Make your own wind chimes from natural materials

The combination of natural materials and beautiful beads, bells or other craft materials is very popular. Take your baby on a relaxing walk through the park and collect a few sticks, branches and pine cones together. If you still have a few shells at home from your last vacation or have the opportunity to collect them, these are of course also great natural materials for the children's wind chimes. Now combine the natural materials with the craft materials to create a truly unique piece.

Natural materials can be combined well with craft materials

If your child is old enough, you can do crafts with them. Children love crafting with natural materials. You should therefore involve your child, even if they only hand you the materials. There is still plenty of fun to be had when everyone is involved in the project.

From colorful to monochrome: whatever you like is allowed!

Most people come up with lots of great ideas when doing handicrafts. Thanks to the large selection of craft materials as well as natural materials, there are many variations to choose from. Sometimes wind chimes can be made colorful. Various colored beads and different colored threads are recommended for this. In addition to the colorful versions, you can also choose a color tone and thus adapt the chime wonderfully to the furnishings in the baby room.

One thing is already certain: in the end, you will have a chime in your hands that you can proudly call unique and that will not only please your little one, but will also add a cozy touch to your living space.
