" Beautiful decorations for the winter season "
When it's cold outside and you want to keep yourself occupied inside, it's a great idea to get creative. How about making a snow globe together with your children, for example? It's a great activity and makes a wonderful winter decoration. With the rightcraft materials and our craft tips, a ball like this can be made quickly.
Craft ideas for children
There are no limits to the imagination when it comes to DIY. Crafting with children is as individual and beautiful as the little ones themselves. Snow globes are very easy to make yourself with a few tricks and can become an eye-catcher in the living room or a new toy for the little ones.
What you need to make snow globes:
- an empty jar with a screw cap
- Distilled water
- glue / a hot glue gun
- a small play figure or colorful craft beads or motif beads
- Artificial snow from the craft store or glitter
- Baby oil or washing-up liquid
- pretty ribbon
- possibly a photo
First, collect empty containers with a screw-on lid for the glitter ball, which you can later turn into a snow globe. These can be empty jam jars or empty baby jars, for example. Mustard jars or other empty jars can of course also be used.
Making your own snow globe step by step
- Once the jar and lid have been thoroughly cleaned and dried, the first step is to attach the selected figure to the inside of the lid with glue. If the motif is too small, the figure can be raised with a little cork; it then stands on a small pedestal. The glue should be very well dried before continuing.
- The empty vessel is now filled with distilled water. As this does not contain lime, the ball will remain beautiful for a very long time and will not become cloudy. If you have decided to use artificial snow, add a small amount to the water. Start sparingly with the snow to test the effect first. Alternatively, you can add a little powder to the water later, as some of it will always stick to the bottom.
- A drop of baby oil or washing-up liquid prevents the snow from clumping together and also ensures that the snow sinks slowly into the water. Children love snow globes with glitter and can either just add glitter or add extra sparkle to the snow.
- Now carefully screw the lid with the figure onto the glass of the snow or glitter ball and test whether everything is tight. Also make sure that the snow trickles down slowly as desired. If this is not the case, you can add more baby oil or washing-up liquid.
- If you and your child like the result, unscrew the lid again to dry the rim of the jar really well. Then glue the lid firmly to the jar so that it cannot be accidentally opened later and is securely closed.
- This beautiful winter decoration can now be embellished individually. You can easily tie a pretty bow around the lid with some ribbon. Some children like to draw or write something on the outside of the jar.
Preserving jars are well suited
When you have finished making your snow globe, the beautiful decorative element can be admired or given as a gift. But don't forget the beautiful gift wrapping not.
Small craft idea: craft beads as an alternative to a figurine
Instead of a figurine in the lid, you can also add motif beads or small bells from our online store to the jar. There are numerous craft ideas that can be realized in a glitter ball.
Snow globes with a photo
If you are looking for a personalized gift or simply want to bring joy to family and friends, make a snow globe with a photo in the lid. It is particularly effective if it is printed on real photo paper and laminated. A picture on normal paper would not look as good. Such a ball can be made quickly and easily as described above. The only thing it does without is the figure. You are sure to come up with new ideas again and again when doing handicrafts with children. Let your imagination and creativity run wild and make a model with colored water for a change. As the color should only appear light, crepe paper is ideal for this project. This is simply dipped into the water and releases the color quickly and discreetly. This creates a beautiful accent that looks even better with glitter or snow.
Child doing handicrafts
Not just for winter
Making a snow globe is not just a good idea for passing the time on cold and rainy days. Many children also enjoy a creative activity on their birthday or on an afternoon when they meet up with their friends. Glitter balls are fascinating all year round and give the favorite character from the children's room the opportunity to take on a new task and shine in new splendor. The idea that empty glasses from the household are given a second life and don't end up in the bin is also very popular with children.
